Ram 1500: 10 questions worth asking before you choose
Selected buying questions about the Ram 1500, answered from manufacturer documents, owner information and real shopper discussions. Equipment changes by model year and package, so check the exact vehicle with Sam or Ryan.
How much can this exact Ram 1500 tow with my family and gear aboard?
Start with the truck’s configuration and payload label, then include passengers, cargo, hitch and trailer tongue weight. A model’s advertised maximum is not every truck’s rating; loaded trailer weight matters more than dry weight.
Should I choose the HEMI, Hurricane or V6?
For 2026, the V6 makes 305 hp, the HEMI V8 395 hp and the standard Hurricane 420 hp. More cylinders do not automatically mean more power. Compare the exact truck’s towing capacity, fuel requirements and test-drive feel before paying for an engine upgrade.
What do I gain and give up with Rebel, RHO or a used TRX?
Rebel emphasizes trail capability; RHO adds a widebody performance approach with a Hurricane six. A 2024 TRX uses a supercharged V8. Compare each year’s payload, width and equipment alongside the performance appeal.

Why do two Big Horn or Laramie trucks have different screens?
The trim badge does not identify every option. Compare the window-sticker radio description and equipment groups, then the actual cabin photo. Center touchscreen, instrument cluster and passenger display are three separate pieces of equipment.
Does this truck really have surround-view cameras and adaptive cruise?
Those are separate features from a backup camera or ordinary cruise control. Look for each exact feature on the VIN-specific sticker and ask for a demonstration; a large touchscreen does not establish either.
Can I power tools from the bed, or is it only a small outlet?
Outlet location and inverter output matter. The 2026 lineup lists different onboard-power capabilities, so identify the installed system’s wattage and operating instructions before choosing it for tools, appliances or camping equipment.
Will RamBox and the tailgate work with how I use the bed?
RamBox adds lockable bedside storage. Tailgate designs also differ; the power-tailgate option is not the multifunction tailgate. Bring your cargo dimensions and check the actual bed, cover and access arrangement together.
Do I need Crew Cab, and which bed length fits my garage?
Choose passenger room and bed length together. Ram 1500 cab-and-bed combinations differ, and the longest available bed is about 6 feet 4 inches. Measure your parking space against the complete truck, including clearance.
Big Horn or Laramie: should I buy the higher trim or the right package?
Start with the features you will actually use. Compare seat ventilation, screen size, cameras and equipment groups line by line. A lower trim with your must-haves may be the better buy; a higher trim makes sense when its additional equipment is worth the price to you.
Can I use a Ram 1500 for a fifth-wheel camper?
Ram does not recommend fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing with the 2026 Ram 1500. Start with an appropriately configured heavy-duty truck and the camper’s loaded pin weight instead of assuming an aftermarket hitch changes the rating.
