Dodge Charger · gas / electric: 10 questions worth asking before you choose
Selected buying questions about the Dodge Charger, answered from manufacturer documents, owner information and real shopper discussions. Equipment changes by model year and package, so check the exact vehicle with Sam or Ryan.
Is this Charger gas-powered or electric?
Check the year and powertrain, not just the Charger name. The current generation includes gas SIXPACK models and electric Daytona models; older used Chargers have different engine and drivetrain choices from today’s lineup.
What is SIXPACK, and how does it differ from a HEMI?
SIXPACK names the newer twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six gas powertrain. It is not a HEMI V8. Compare the exact engine, output and model year when deciding between a newer Charger and an older muscle car.
Should I choose Charger R/T, Scat Pack or Daytona Scat Pack?
For 2026, gas R/T and Scat Pack use different SIXPACK outputs, while Daytona Scat Pack is electric. Compare powertrain and charging needs first; a repeated trim name across generations does not mean the same engine.
Are the new Chargers AWD, or can I get rear-wheel drive?
The 2026 lineup offers AWD with selectable rear-drive operation. Older Chargers use different configurations. Confirm your exact model’s drive modes and tires, especially when comparing a new-generation car with a used V8.
Will an electric Daytona work if I cannot charge at home?
Map dependable charging near home, work and your regular trips, then compare cost and time with gasoline. Public charging can change the ownership equation; convenient, reliable access matters more than the biggest advertised range.
What range should I expect on a road trip?
Use the exact model-year EPA label, then allow for weather, speed, wheels and charging stops. Charger Daytona range differs by configuration; a headline from another trim or year is not a road-trip guarantee.
How long does charging take, and which charger should I use?
Home AC and public DC charging provide different speeds. Check the car’s compatible connection, charger power and installation requirements; actual charging time also changes with battery temperature and starting charge level.
Does the two-door Charger have usable family and cargo space?
The newer Charger uses a rear hatch that improves cargo access. Still, test rear-seat entry with your passengers and child seats; a two-door and four-door may suit daily family routines very differently.
What does the Track Pack add beyond a different appearance?
Performance packages may change tires, brakes or suspension, while other packages emphasize styling or cabin comfort. Compare the exact factory package contents and replacement-tire needs rather than treating every black-wheel car as track-equipped.
Can the electric Charger be quiet, and does it still need servicing?
The Daytona’s Fratzonic sound system can be quieted. Electric propulsion removes engine-oil service, but the car still needs inspections and scheduled maintenance; separate the sound feature from actual engine type and ownership requirements.
