Dodge Hornet · gas / plug-in hybrid: 10 questions worth asking before you choose
Selected buying questions about the Dodge Hornet, answered from manufacturer documents, owner information and real shopper discussions. Equipment changes by model year and package, so check the exact vehicle with Sam or Ryan.
Is the Hornet GT a hybrid, or only the R/T?
The GT uses a gasoline powertrain; the R/T is a plug-in hybrid. Start with that distinction before comparing Plus packages or price, because charging access and daily driving needs change which version fits.
Do both Hornet versions have AWD?
Dodge lists AWD on both GT and R/T. That does not make their powertrains identical: compare gas and plug-in-hybrid operation, then consider tire choice and the conditions you actually drive in.
Does the R/T need plugging in every day?
It can operate as a hybrid, but regular external charging is how you make fuller use of electric driving. Compare your routine and charging access before paying for a plug-in capability you rarely use.
Can I use a highway DC fast charger with the Hornet R/T?
The Hornet R/T accepts Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging, not Level 3 DC fast charging. Confirm connector compatibility before planning a stop; a public charging location may offer several different charger types.
Why can home charging take longer than the advertised time?
Charging time depends on the outlet, available current, settings and starting battery level. Have the home electrical setup checked and review the charge settings; a standard household connection and a Level 2 installation are different.
What happens when the electric-range display reaches zero?
The plug-in system can transition to hybrid operation using gasoline. A zero electric-range display is not the same as an inoperative vehicle; follow the owner manual and distinguish normal hybrid operation from a warning message.
Can a Hornet tow my small trailer?
Use the exact powertrain’s towing table and required equipment, then include people, luggage and tongue weight. Do not transfer a GT rating to an R/T or assume an added hitch establishes trailer capability.
Does Plus or the Track Pack guarantee all the cameras and comfort features?
No single badge answers every equipment question. Compare the sticker for surround-view camera, seat ventilation, audio and driver assistance, then demonstrate them. Model year, package combinations and installed options affect the actual vehicle.
Is the Hornet still being built, and can it still be serviced?
Dodge says production is paused indefinitely, while remaining dealer vehicles may still be available. It directs owners to authorized CDJR dealers and Mopar for parts and service; confirm the particular vehicle’s warranty and availability.
What should I check on a used Hornet before buying?
Review service history, charging operation on an R/T, both keys and included charging equipment. Check the VIN for open recalls and arrange an inspection rather than treating owner complaints or a low price as a diagnosis.
